Our Lady of Akita to Sister Agnes Sasagawa

October 13, 1973:

"As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and priests."

"The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres...churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.

"The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of my sadness. If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no longer pardon for them"

"With courage, speak to your superior. He will know how to encourage each one of you to pray and to accomplish works of reparation."

I was meditating on this and other messages of Akita yesterday after writing a post on my father's holy death and how dad and I used to speak of the coming chastisement. After attending a Vigil Mass at a local parish here in Manchester, I decided to stop by Building 19 (which I always enjoy). As I was leaving the store, I came across a woman walking a very large dog. Being an ardent lover of canines, I couldn't resist stopping to talk with this woman and spending some time with her furry friend.

It wasn't until later in the evening that something dawned on me. And I am actually an excellent listener. It's just that sometimes I don't make a connection right away. You know how that is. And what is it that finally occured to me several hours after speaking with this woman? Just this: no less than three times during our conversation she mentioned what breed her dog was: an Akita! Why did she mention this three times? At the time I didn't make much of it.

A mere coincidence? Perhaps. Maybe not. It should be remembered that Our Lady of La Salette appeared to Melanie Calvat and Maximin Giraud on the 19th of September. And I was walking out of a Building 19 on the same day that I wrote a post about my father who died on September 19th.

I've never been one to look for such "coincidences." As I said, all of this occured to me only later in the evening. It doesn't necessarily mean anything. I will definitely take it to prayer.

Paul

  1. I often wondered about coincidences myself, it can at times be disconcerting, when we do not always know why there is a coincidence. I have had many regarding La Salette Shrine, and a few other places, only to realize that sometimes we are sent to places for a purpose that is yet to be revealed by the Lord. For me I have had to learn to discern if a coincidence is from God or from elsewhere.

  2. I couldn't agree more Marie Cecile. Discernment is always in order. Prayer and fasting are excellent ways of assisting us in our discernment.

When you get the chance, would you mind sharing with us your personal experiences with coincidences?

    Peace of Christ Sister!

  3. Paul,
I'd be happy to offer some things about my experience will coincidences. I don't know if this could be called a coincidence or just God's way of seeing if we are listening. Any way, a few times I would have this strong urge to go to La Salette, for no particular reason. The prior Christmas season of 2004, was a time of great trial for I had gone several times. Each time discerning whether it was my own will or the will of God's that I go. So, yes prayer was always there. Each time I felt called to go there, the longer I myself put it off, the stronger it became that I needed to go. Until finally when I did go it was with a sense of relief. Out of this I discovered much in the way God works. Sometimes we discover God is very close to us when we do not often realize it. Where unity of hearts is often felt when we do God's will.

  4. Dear Marie Cecile,

Thank you for sharing that with everyone. And yes, we are only at peace when we are striving to remain faithful to God's Will for us.

It was the great St. Augustine, Father and Doctor of the Church, who said that "Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee."

When we abandon ourselves to Divine Providence, then we are truly free and no one can rob us of our joy.

May I offer a Scriptural meditation? Romans 8.

    God love you,
    Paul

  5. Paul,
Now I can say for certain what a coincidence, I recently purchased a book called "City of God" by none other than St. Augustine. It is one of the books that I am currently reading at a slow pace. Thank you for the meditation of Romans 8, I will be rereading the chapter, to let it be absorbed more fully into the spirit of God's guidance. May I adopt your ending.

    God Love You

  6. Dear Marie Cecile,

That's one of my favorites. I like the Modern Library edition with an introduction by Thomas Merton, O.C.S.O.

I like what St. Augustine has to say about Baptism of Desire.

    God love you,
    Paul

  7. Dear Paul,

My copy is an abridged copy with an introduction by Etienne Gilson, I am unfortunatley, only at the beginning, with Chapter 9 as the next one to read. By-the-way thank you for the meditation for Romans 8, I found it very enlightening.

    God Love You

  8. I love Etienne Gilson. If you get the chance Marie, check out his work "The Philosophy of Thomas Aquinas." I have a Barnes & Noble edition. Not sure if anyone else publishes it.

    God love you,

  9. Dear Paul,
I ended up purchasing the book you mentioned, as I had to go to Barnes and Noble for a book for School. Strange as I was already planning on going to B & N since the beginning of the week, it was one of those wait till the weekend venutres. Anyway, it was the last book they had. I will be looking forward to reading it as soon as I finish the other one.

    God Love You
    Marie Cecile

PS Thank You for the smile :)

  10. Dear Marie,

I think you will really enjoy the book. Thomas Aquinas is known as the Angelic Doctor since he wrote at length on the angels and their hierarchy. Fascinating stuff.

And there was one copy left waiting for you! The ways of providence are mysterious.

May I ask what you are majoring in Marie? My email: cleghornboy@juno.com

    God love you,
    Paul
