Let's hope that we've heard the last of Peter, Paul and Mary at Mass as well or other folksy type music. I love folk music. But it doesn't belong in the liturgy.
Thank you Renee and Brian for your thoughts. While I have never personally witnessed cola and pretzels at Holy Mass, I have heard of this being done. I have experienced banal guitar music at Mass however.
Once, while preparing for Mass at Our Lady of the Lake in Leominster, Massachusetts, a layman yelled out to his friend across the Church (at the top of his lungs): "John, you want to go for a beer?" This in front of the tabernacle.
Says it all doesn't it? Reverence is a forgotten virtue in our entertainment-soaked society. All the more tragic since reverence is the mother of all the other virtues.
What no more passing out cola and pretzels at Mass?
