In his "I Have a Dream" speech, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Now, former President Jimmy Carter, the same man who referred to Barack Obama as a "Black Boy" (see video here) is asserting that the overwhelming portion of opposition to President Obama's socialistic policies is racist in origin (see here).
A convenient way to silence debate and political dissent. Paint the opposition as racist even when there is no evidence of racism. Never mind that ordinary decent Americans, many of whom voted for Barack Obama, are concerned about their future and the future of their children. No, according to former President Carter, most of those who have been expressing their concerns over the direction this country is heading in are racist. This response from Rush Limbaugh is most relevant.
Why hasn't Mr. Carter issued a statement denouncing the Belleville incident just the other day? A black student beats up a white student and is cheered by numerous other black students.
ReplyDeleteIs that racism Mr. Carter?
When President Obama accused the Cambridge Police Department of "acting stupidly" was that racism? How about when he accused former President Clinton of lying? Was that also racism? Where was President Carter's concern then? It would seem rather obvious that President Carter isn't really concerned about racism. A cheap tactic which has cheapened his name.
ReplyDeleteCNN is reporting that Michael Steele, who is the first African-American to chair the Republican National Committee, denied Wednesday that race is fueling protests against President Obama.
ReplyDeleteMr. Steele said that, "Injecting race into the debate over critical issues facing American families doesn't create jobs, reform our health care system or reduce the growing deficit. It only divides Americans rather than uniting us to find solutions to challenges facing our nation."
And I agree. President Carter's accusation is reckless and irresponsible. Evidently he is more interested in dividing Americans and silencing opposition to Obama's radical policies with his hurtful accusations than he is on uniting Americans.
Shameful.
From chapter 44 of the Pro-Life Activist’s Encyclopedia published by American Life League (From the EWTN Document Library):
ReplyDeleteThe "Victim Status" At Work
[I]t is now socially unacceptable to criticize the actions of any member of a certified "victim group," regardless of his actions. These groups include women, Blacks, sodomites, and Neoliberal Jews.
Even the most casual examination of social trends reveals that individuals from these "victim groups" have a much greater latitude to commit unethical and illegal acts and to say outrageous things than do those persons who are not members of these classes of people.
Whenever some brave person raises objections to even the most flagrant abuses committed by "certified victims," he or she is inevitably labeled "misogynist," "racist," "homophobic," or "anti-Semitic," depending upon the "victim's" background.
The mere fact that the perpetrator of some heinous act is a member of one of these groups must not stop pro-lifers from proclaiming the truth. If activists allow a person to use his gender, race, religious upbringing, or history of sexual perversions as a blanket excuse to commit atrocities, then there is simply no way to effectively oppose these atrocities.
Very true anonymous. There are many people who love to cling to "victim status." On the other hand, there are also real victims and victim groups.
ReplyDeleteNostra Aetate of Vatican II states clearly that, "in her rejection of every persecution against [any man], the Church, mindful of the patrimony she shares with the Jews and moved not by political reasons but by the Gospel's spiritual love, decries hatred, persecutions, displays of anti-Semitism, directed against Jews at any time and by [anyone]." This includes all those who call themselves Catholic.
Your list of those who claim victim status to manipulate public opinion: "women, Blacks, sodomites, and Neoliberal Jews" is by no means exhaustive. For example, many so- called "traditionalist" Catholics are also known to be quite proficient at this. as they whine about Vatican II reforms.
This is precisely why we should avoid such extremism and listen to the Holy Father and those Bishops who are united wth him.
