The falsehoods alleging that Pope Benedict XVI engaged in attempts to cover-up the abuse of children have been thoroughly refuted and are without merit. But the attacks continue. This is a spiritual war with atheistic humanists, homosexual and abortion activists attempting to discredit the Vicar of Christ and the Catholic Church which is the Mystical Body of Christ.
Father Livio Fanzaga, in his book "Wrath of God: The Days of the Antichrist," notes that, "Benson [Robert Hugh Benson] highlights and denounces a particular historical position according to which Christianity has failed in its objectives. While the founder of Christianity preached non-violence, in the course of its history Christianity has frequently witnessed or instigated violence and war. The followers of Christ, who promised peace, promote war and violence. This is the fundamental tenet of a particular outlook on the Church which, even today, is quite commonly accepted. Similar objections are made to Christianity when justice is considered. Christianity is accused of failure to institute justice.
Benson clearly perceived the rise of this outlook, and its analysis of Christianity's history. Exponents of this position clamor for the Catholic Church to be called to a kind of Nuremberg trial. They regard the Church as the source of all the woes and horrors of the past two millennia. They hold the Churhc responsible for wars and offer the Crusades as proof of their claims. Pointing to the Inquisition, they accuse the Catholic Church of intolerance. Moreover, citing the death penalty and the persecution of heretics, they impute to the Catholic Church a lack of respect for human life and, because of its condemnation of class struggle, they blame it for the continuing presence of poverty in the world. Benson fully realized the existence of this outlook....It's objective is to bring Catholicism to account and condemn it without appeal. Such is part of the effort to eradicate Christianity and is directed against the most dangerous and best organized form of Christianity which is, of course, the Catholic Church. After two millennia, the imputation of the great pagan historian, Tacitus, is once again revived: the Christians are the enemies of the human race (Annals, XV, 44). The heart of the modern world, according to Benson, is imbued with the same belief." (pp. 137-138).
As I have said in previous posts, the new religion must destroy the Catholic Church and vices must be turned into gods in preparation for the Man of Sin. Christopher Hitchens, one of the atheists calling for Pope Benedict XVI's arrest, has asserted that, "Many of the teachings of Christianity are, as well as being incredible and mythical, immoral. I would principally wish to cite the concept of vicarious redemption, whereby one's own responsibilities can be flung onto a scapegoat and thereby taken away. In my book, I argue that I can pay your debt or even take your place in prison but I cannot absolve you of what you actually did. This exorbitant fantasy of "forgiveness" is unfortunately matched by an equally extreme admonition—which is that the refusal to accept such a sublime offer may be punishable by eternal damnation. Not even the Old Testament, which speaks hotly in recommending genocide, slavery, genital mutilation, and other horrors, stoops to mention the torture of the dead. Those who tell this evil story to small children are not damned by me, but have been damned by history and should also be condemned by those who shrink from cruelty to children (a moral essential that underlies all cultures)." (See here).
The effort to eradicate Christianity will reach its zenith when the Man of Sin appears. As Romano Guardini said in The Lord, "One day the Antichrist will come: a human being who introduces an order of things in which rebellion against God will attain its ultimate power. He will be filled with enlightenment and strength. The ultimate aim of all aims will be to prove that existence witout Christ is possible - nay rather, that Christ is the enemy of existence, which can be fully realized only when all Christian values have been destroyed. His arguments will be so impressive, supported by means of such tremendous power - violent and diplomatic, material and intellectual - that to reject them will result in almost insurmountable scandal, and everyone whose eyes are not opened by grace will be lost. Then it will be clear what the Christian essence really is: that which stems not from the world, but from the heart of God; victory of grace over the world; redemption of the world, for her true essence is not to be found in herself, but in God, from whom she has received it. When God becomes all in all, the world will finally burst into flower."

The level of hatred being directed at Pope Benedict and the Church in general is evidence of the demonic.
ReplyDeleteThe National Post is reporting that, "Prof. Dawkins, an evolutionary biologist who has described the Roman Catholic Church as a 'profiteering, woman-fearing, guilt-gorging, truth-hating, child-raping institution,' wrote on his blog that he was 'especially intrigued' by the challenge of the Pope's presumed diplomatic immunity as a sovereign head of state."
ReplyDeleteThese atheists have nohing but hatred for the Catholic Church. They are bigots who are, in my opinion, capable of physical violence and should themselves be investigated by the authorities.
