The following is taken from the Encyclical Letter Ingruentium malorum of His Holiness Pope Pius XII which was published on September 19, 1951, the anniversary of the La Salette apparition:
"We do not hesitate to affirm again publicly that we put great confidence in the holy rosary for the healing of the evils that afflict our times. Not with force, not with arms, not with human power, but with divine help obtained through the means of this prayer will the Church, strong like David with his sling, be able to confront the infernal enemy, addressing to him the words of the young shepherd: 'You come against me with sword and spear and scimitar, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel that you have insulted. Today the Lord shall deliver you into my hands....All this multitude, too, shall learn that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves. For the battle is the Lord's, and he shall deliver you into our hands.'
For this reason, we earnestly desire, Venerable Brothers, that all the faithful, following your example and your exhortation, conscientiously respond to our paternal admonitions, uniting their hearts and voices with the same ardor of charity. If the evils and the assaults of the wicked increase, so likewise must the zeal of all upright people increase and become even more vigorous. Let them strive to obtain from our most loving Mother, especially through this form of prayer, that better times may quickly return for the Church and for society."
Paul
