"..the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. And they will do this because they have not known the Father, nor me. But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them." (John 16: 2-4).
Meditation: John 8: 44.

Earlier today I was thinking about a matter I'm being persecuted about at work - a matter regarding the prescribing of certain medications - anyway, I was thinking to myself "I must be willing to give up my career over this" then...suddenly it came to my mind "No, you must be willing to give up your life over this"
For the greater glory of God Amen+
We must die to ourselves every day and be willing to carry our cross. In my own diocese I am hated and most unwelcome. Friendship with Jesus is expensive at times.
You are right Paul- its not necessarily human death that we are called to, but the smaller, less glorious death to self.
There are many ways to be martyr, one of which is to lay down your life one desire at a time, one friend at a time, one job/career at a time...etc.
A dry martyrdom. But the hour is fast approaching when actual martyrdom will be thrust upon us. Sanguis martyrum semen Christianorum.
