Signs of the times...

"...America will be destroyed economically by a series of natural disasters."

- Therese Neumann, German mystic, Twentieth Century
"Do not stop to consider the ever thickening
darkness, the sin which has been set up as the
norm of human action, the suffering which is
mounting to its peak and the chastisement
which this humanity is preparing with its own
hands." - Our Lady to Fr. Gobbi, November 5,
1977.

As you have noted so many times before Paul, there are many Catholics who don't accept the whole concept of chastisement because they think a merciful God wouldn't do such a thing. But Scripture teaches that the Lord chastises His people to bring them back to sanity. Chastisement IS an act of mercy.

Theresa Neumann was not only a mystic. She bore the stigmata as did St. Pio. And she foretold natural disasters wreaking havoc with the U.S. I don't think many of us possess the degree of holiness which she did. Why then do we assume that such prophets were simply being "chicken little"? What about Our Blessed Mother? At many apparition sites, she too has warned of the coming crisis. It makes you wonder how long we will ignore St. Paul's exhortation not to despise prophecy. In our arrogance, we apparently believe we know better than the holy men and women God sends our way. But pride goes before a fall.

I heard on CNN that winds were ripping roofs off of houses (strong winds and not tornados which were also around) and that the Mid-West received some 11.5 inches of rain in about as many hours. One forecaster said he couldn't explain such heavy rainfall.

Pope Pius IX once said, "Since the whole world is against God and His Church, it is evident that He has reserved the victory over Hisenemies to Himself. This will be more obvious when it is considered that the root of all our present evils is to be found in the fact that those with talents and vigor crave earthly pleasures and not only desert God but repudiate Him altogether; thus it appears they cannot be brought back to God in any other way except through an act that cannot be ascribed to any secondary agency, and thus all will be forced to look to the supernatural and cry out: 'From the Lord is this come to pass and it is wonderful in our eyes.'...There will come a great wonder which will fill the world with astonishment. This wonder will be preceded by the triumph of revolution. The Church will suffer exceedingly. Her servants and her chieftain [a future Pope] will be mocked, scourged and martyred."

Now this prophecy comes from a holy Pontiff! We should, therefore, treat it all the more seriously.

If your spiritual eyes are open [by God's grace] you will see how the prophecies of chastisement and persecution are all most consistent.

If you're an "intellectual" [real or imagined] who is embarassed by the supernatural because you have been completely secularised, no amount of authentic prophecy will reach your hardened, pride-filled heart.

"Chastisement IS an act of mercy."

Yes it is. It leads to repentance and recognition that Jesus Christ is active at every moment in the world. And he has come to save those who will listen.

Our Lady of Fatima was a beautiful reminder of this.

Our Lady of Akita (approved apparition) is another reminder, yet her warning tone also reminds us not enough are listening with an open heart.

Events in the mid-west should serve as a wake up call to the churches. Sadly, the majority continue to slumber.
