Is moral opposition to homosexuality a hate crime?

The Southern Poverty Law Center has included Mass Resistance in its list of hate groups because of the organization's opposition to homosexuality, an opposition which is rooted in both Divine Revelation and Natural Law. This is ridiculous on so many different levels. What is particularly ironic, however, is that Mass Resistance doesn't even meet the SPLC's definition of a hate group: "All hate groups have beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics." (Source: http://www.splcenter.org/intel/map/hate.jsp).

And what is the definition of "immutable"? The word itself comes from the Latin: in - not and mutabilis - mutable. The American Heritage Dictionary provides us with an excellent definition: "Not subject or susceptible to change." But can one honestly suggest that homosexuality is immutable? Not according to the hard science: http://www.narth.com/docs/innate.html

What then has motivated the Southern Poverty Law Center to include Mass Resistance in its listing of hate groups? Is the SPLC driven by politics or science? Tolerance or relativism? Open-mindedness or indiscrimination?

What do you think?

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.....this destroys the SPLC argument that mass resistance is a hate group....awesome!

Keep it up Paul.

When an organization like the Southern Poverty Law Center cannot even remain true to its own definitions, they inevitably begin to suffer from credibility problems. What a shame that they have exchanged principles for slogans and a politics-driven ideology.

The homosexual movement has beliefs and practices which attack or malign an entire class of people for their immutable characteristics: Catholics.

As Catholics, we are morally and spiritually bound to adhere to Magisterial teaching on the subject of homosexuality. And yet, the homosexual movement - a true hate movement - maligns us as "homophobic" or mentally ill because we accept the teaching of the Church.

The "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" (homosexual fanatics who dress up as Religious Sisters and invade Catholic Churches mocking the Church and her teachings), are attacking us. Why hasn't the SPLC labelled them a hate group?

By embracing the radical homosexual ideology, the SPLC is committing credibility suicide.

Exactly Ellen. The SPLC won't be taken seriously if they continue to venture down this road.

A few examples of immutable characteristics: skin color, race/ethnicity, disability. But homosexuality is not a biological condition. There is absolutely no scientific research to corroborate the claim of homosexual activists that the inclination is innate or genetic. On the contrary, all the scientific data suggest otherwise.

Right William, since people with a homosexual orientation come from different walks of life, different ethnic backgrounds, skin color, socio-economic status, religious backgrounds, etc, the only thing they share in common as a group is their homosexual orientation which is not innate or genetically determined. Therefore, there is no legal or moral basis for defining people who possess a homosexual orientation to be a "class" in my view.

People with a homosexual orientation should enjoy the same civil rights that other members of society enjoy. But they should not be afforded special rights or be treated as a "class."

The Southern Poverty Law Center is now waging a war on orthodox Christians, Jews, Muslims and othes who oppose homosexuality on moral grounds. It will be necessary for them to openly declare the Bible to be hate speech next as the texts clearly teach that homosexuality is a grave sin. Once this happens, anyone preaching or teaching the truth will be subject to fines and/or imprisonment.

And still, most Christians are remaining silent. The apostasy spreads.
